Can we name it coincidence?
As a kid, I was scared of dogs. That was because a big dog scared me while I was walking around the neighbourhood. Eventually, it happened so, that we got ourselves a dog...and not just a small breed, but a German Shepherd- a gift from a friend of my father's. Not only did I got used to accepting dogs, but for 14 years I found a true friend in Sara (her name). Unbelievably intelligent, energetic and loving creature! However, we had to take the tough decision, as she got terminally ill.
It was very hard for my family to overcome this. It is not something to easily move on from ( if you can 100% move on). The apartment felt empty without her. For some time I was wondering should we take a cat because we have always lived with pets and it felt too sad and strange. However I knew that I would move out of our flat eventually, so I didn't want to make such a decision.
As I was walking back home with my mother, heard meowing, but was unsure from where it came. As we walked, I saw a small kitten on the other side of the street. She walked very unconfidently and wobbly, yet pursued to cross the road in our direction. At this moment, a truck driver was coming our way. A miracle it was, that he noticed the small kitten and turned slightly to the left, in order to save its life. We all felt relief that nothing happened to the small hero. It came straight to us and continued meowing and shivering. We looked around, wondering if it didn't belong to someone or if it didn't have a mom nearby. At that moment, there was a group of elderly who persuaded us to take it, claiming it belongs to no one and it is "from the garbage cans". At that moment I just took it in my hand and without talking about it, went back home with it. She weighed barely 200 grams.
Two years later the small baby turned into a wonderful and loving cat! She quickly took the spotlight in our house and made us extremely happy and lucky! And yes, she still follows me around everywhere, even up to this day!
I still can't explain how random this event was and at the same time how well orchestrated (or as if someone had organized it beforehand) it was. Strangely enough, Happy (the hero in the story) was even born a week or less after Sara's death. I think that sometimes animals choose their human friends, and this story is a definite proof. Despite being in the scientific field of psychology, where everything has to be proven, I can't help but believe in miracles! Every time I remind myself of this story or just by looking at Happy (as mischievous as she can sometimes be) I feel deep gratitude and at the same time dismiss the possibility of coincidences. And maybe it is true that after hardships or pain, there is a remedy...sometimes it has to be achieved, and other times it comes in the form of a "coincidental gift" which you never expect.
There are probably millions of such inspiring stories out there, and I would be happy if you could share some of them in the comments! Thank you for your time! :)
P.S: You can find pictures of Happy in my Instagram account!
